Seeds Library Cafe Opening Tomorrow

As a librarian who loves local food, there's nothing better to me than the confluence of the Boulder Farmers' Market and the Boulder Public Library in launching Seeds Library Cafe at the library. You'll be able to check it out starting tomorrow morning, enjoy the library, and support local vendors in the process! Here's what the Farmers' Market says:

Seeds Library Cafe Opening Mon. April 27
Opening in the Main Boulder Public Library at 9am

As the final pieces are being drilled in and the baristas perfect their espresso skills, we are thrilled to be approaching opening day.

Elyse Wood, program coordinator for Seeds, said, "Seeds is a unique collaboration between Boulder's Library and its farmers. We want it to be a venue to help the community connect more with its food and drink through educational programs."

Seeds has committed to spending 75 percent of its food costs with local vendors, including Aspen Moon Farm, Breadworks Bakery, Ollin Farms, Ela Family Farms, and Oxford Gardens. Sample menu items include the Market Beet Salad and Grilled Cheese Pesto Panini. The "Sprouts Menu" for the kids will feature a Pancake Pocket and Little Dippers, which are vegetable sticks and bread bites served with house-made hummus.

Seeds Library Cafe will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon. through Thurs., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fri. and Sat., and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sun. Follow Seeds on FacebookTwitter and Instagram for updates: @seedsboulder.

Downton Abbey Cookbook Arrives

I can only hope that some collections of the Boulder Public main library are still in storage following its massive renovation; otherwise I can't conceive of how it possibly took 11 days to get the available copy I requested of The Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook a few miles across town to my nearby branch. The email that it has finally (my word, not theirs) arrived there just dropped in. Hope to have some fun with it this weekend.

A Library Cookbook Grouse

So a week ago today, shortly before the premiere of season five of Downton Abbey, I put in an online request for the one available copy of The Unofficial Downton Abbey Cookbook to be sent from the main library in Boulder to the branch that is conveniently close to me (and thanks to them for having that option). But as of late yesterday, my request was still listed as being as "in transit," which stymies me as to why it should be taking going on a week to get a book across a fairly small town. I might not actually cook from the thing, but I am really looking forward to seeing it!

New Library Spot Will Be Seeds Cafe!

As previously noted, in a really cool move the Boulder Farmers' Market will be operating the new cafe at the Boulder Public Library main location. And the name winning the public naming contest is Seeds Cafe, the one the Farmers' Market was hoping for! It beat out Aesop's Tables, which also had resonance, but I'm so glad the name will be a great match with the actual operators. Here's what the Market says:

Official Library Café Name

After weeks of nominations and voting, our café space opening in February inside the Boulder Public Library finally has it's name: Seeds Café.

See you at Seeds in a few short months!

Vote For Library Cafe Name

We're so fortunate that the Boulder Farmers' Market will be reestablishing a cafe at the Boulder Library, one that other operators closed a year or two ago. The library is doing a poll for the name of the new cafe, and the Farmers' Market is hoping for votes for Seeds Cafe, with obvious reference to their roots (oops, pun). When I just voted using the Farmers' Market link to the poll, Aesop's Tables was winning, with Seeds in second place of four choices. I have to say Aesop's Tables is clever, but my heart is with the origin of the food. Think about it and vote! Update: Voting is now closed, so we'll wait to see what the winner is.

Boulder Farmers' Market Meets Library

Couldn't get much better than this from my perspective, the Boulder Public Library teaming up with the Boulder Farmers' Market for a new cafe in the library. The thinking is that the cafe will feature "local foods, farmers, and educational opportunities, at affordable prices." The library is currently conducting a naming contest for the cafe, which is expected to open in February. I'd link to the article the Daily Camera ran about it, but it doesn't seem to be on their website.
