Pepper Fest At Longmont Farmers' Market

The Boulder County Farmers' Market held weekly at the fairgrounds in Longmont will go all out on peppers tomorrow with an energized Pepper Fest. Here are the details from them (and note that there will be a lovely librarian from the library reading to kids, but it won't be me!):

Pepper Fest: This Saturday at the Longmont Farmers Market

Celebrate peppers—everything you can imagine from sweet, mini bells to tear-inducing dynamite—at the Longmont Farmers Market this Saturday, Sept. 12, where you can find over 40 varieties of peppers throughout the colorful market aisles.

Specialty dishes will include Hatch Green Chili Papusas, Wood-Fired Stuffed Bell Peppers, Smoked Pueblo Chili Chicken Tacos, Roasted Red Pepper Meringues, and pepper pastas, salsas and breads. Miller Farms and Pope Farm will be roasting fresh chili peppers at the festival.

There is something for everyone to enjoy, from pepper tastings and salsa demos to a chili pepper piñata and scavenger hunt!

8AM-2PM: free children's face-painting and pepper memory game
8AM-1PM: pepper tasting and photo booth
8AM-11AM: Escoffier Culinary School cooking demos

Longmont Wednesday Farmers' Market News

Sad that things haven't worked out well this year for the downtown Longmont Boulder Farmers' Market, the newest of the four Boulder County markets. Next week will be the last of the season, closing two months earlier than planned. But this has been such a strange weather year, both for the farmers valiantly trying to produce these crops, and for the markets themselves. Talking yesterday with folks who've had a booth at the Wednesday Longmont market, it has evidently rained just about every one of them this year, although last night was reportedly just beautiful. Here's what the Times-Call has to say.

Season's Last Longmont Evening Market Tomorrow

Hard to believe things are drawing to a close already, but the final Wednesday market of its inaugural season in downtown Longmont will be tomorrow afternoon starting at 4. (The Saturday one at the Longmont fairgrounds continues for a bit, and everything lasts longer in Boulder proper.) To celebrate its success, it will also be followed by a party! Here's what the Boulder Farmers' Market says:

  • Downtown Longmont Farmers' Market after-party
at Left Hand Brewing Co: Join BCFM and vendors just right down the street from the market at Left Hand from7pm to 9pm to raise a glass to the first Downtown Longmont Farmers' Market season. Here's what the Market says about everything going on.

New Downtown Longmont Farmers' Market

When I refer to the Boulder Farmers' Market, I usually mean the Saturday and Wednesday ones in downtown Boulder, but it looks like I need to get more precise. The Boulder in the name actually refers to Boulder County. The market has long had a Saturday venue at the fairgrounds in Longmont, and now is adding a Wednesday evening one for downtown Longmont. Indeed, if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood, that downtown historic district is truly lovely, plus the new market is only a block away from such highlights as Ziggi's Coffee and the Longmont Public Library. Here's what the Boulder Farmers' Market says:

Wednesday, June 25: 4-8pm
Opening night at the Downtown Longmont Farmers' Market, 5th Avenue between Main and Kimbark
Come by to help us celebrate the launch of our brand new market downtown Longmont in partnership with the Longmont Downtown Development Authority. Longmont's Mayor Coombs will be  in attendance and performing a ribbon cutting leading up to the open at 4pm.

Boulder Farmers' Market Today

It's a fine day to get out to the Farmers' Market, either in downtown Boulder today from 8 to 2, or out in Longmont from 8 to 1.  The advantage of the Longmont one for today is that not only is the Boulder County Fair happening right there, but you can also visit with the friendly folks manning the Longmont Public Library booth at the market.  I won't be one of those folks today, but if you're in the neighborhood, please do stop by the booth and say hi.  And if you like to plan your marketing in advance, you can see the fresh produce you can expect to find at the market here.

Longmont Library At Saturday's Farmers' Market

Saturday will be a big day for the Farmers' Market in Longmont, since it is held on the Boulder County Fairgrounds and the fair itself will be in full swing.  Among the offerings at the Farmers' Market will be a booth manned by smiling staff and Friends of the Longmont Public Library, a place near and dear to my heart.  I won't be working the booth this time, but if you're in the neighborhood, do stop by to find out about some really cool stuff happening at the library.  There might even be some tasty treats!

Boulder County Farmers' Markets Today

Now that Munson's local corn has arrived, I feel like summer is in full swing, so it should be a great day for the Boulder Farmers' Market downtown from 8 to 2 today.  And if you're heading to the Longmont Farmers' Market (8 to 1, one hour shorter than Boulder), please do stop by the booth of the Longmont Public Library, where a couple of friendly staffers will greet you with a bowl full of cherries, as well as amazing info about the library.  The library folks will only be there from 8 to 10 am, so stop by early!

Great Booth At The Longmont Farmer's Market Saturday

While I've usually focused on the Farmers' Market in downtown Boulder on Wednesdays and Saturdays, since it's within biking distance for me, I've also mentioned that the Boulder County Farmers' Market holds a fine one every Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm at the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont, accessed from the corner of Hover Road and Boston Avenue.  In addition to fresh, seasonal produce (click here to see the crop list of what to expect at this week's markets), this week's Longmont market on the 23rd will have a special table from the Longmont Public Library, humbly manned by yours truly, along with a more capable colleague.  The table will only be up from 8 to 10 am, while the rest of my family sleeps in, so please rise and shine early to come see us!

The resources of the library can completely blow you away - the cooking magazines alone that are available for checkout are mindboggling (Bon Appetit, Cooking Light, Vegetarian Times, Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, The Herb Companion, and on and on), plus you'll find subscriptions to Backyard Poultry, Bee Culture, Organic Gardening, and so much more.  Plus, the Longmont library has one of the best cookbook collections on the planet, with the hottest new cookbooks, books to address all kinds of special interests and dietary concerns, and all the classics, to boot.  On top of it all, the library has just added a Weigh and Win kiosk!  So if you can get to the Longmont Farmer's Market before 10 am this Saturday, please do look for the Longmont Public Library's booth.  I'd love to meet you and to answer any questions about all the great things the library offers!
