Bees And Our Food
NPR (via Colorado Public Radio) today broadcast two back-to-back fascinating features on bees, particularly as they relate to our food. Click to hear or read the transcript for the first and the second. I sure didn't know honey bees are essentially our food slaves, living in man-made constructions and trucked around the country to pollinate various crops. No wonder they're dying off.

Bees Are So Crucial To Us
And as pollinators, especially to our food supply. The current crisis in bee colony collapse should be of concern to everybody. We're lucky to be participants in a CU study cleverly called The Bees' Needs, where we're tracking nesting activity in a "bee block" by our garage. Meanwhile Whole Foods is throwing its weight into the discussion with a Human Bee-In tomorrow. Here's what they say:

Honey Bee Awareness Day Celebration
In honor of our friends, the bees, on which we depend for so much of our food, the Pearl Street Whole Foods will host a celebration this Saturday evening, the 23rd, including info, food, and a film screening. Here's what they say:
