Superior Supports My Favorites

Every year, Superior Liquor (in Superior, obviously) does a wonderful campaign in which you can donate your customer points to a great cause, which they then brilliantly leverage through additional corporate sponsorship. This year, customer club members have the splendid choice of donating to Community Food Share or the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, two of my favorite organizations ever. And thanks to the corporate support they've arranged, every $1 you give in accumulated points becomes $3 to the organization of your choice. You have until December 31st to donate, so consider doing it if you are a member!

Community Food Share Drive

Just a reminder that the incredibly important food drive that Community Food Share conducts every year at this time runs through this Wednesday, the 25th. If you haven't already done so, it's a wonderful opportunity to provide non-perishable food for the drive at so many of our Boulder stores while doing your own ample holiday shopping.

Let's Bag Hunger Today!

One of my favorite annual events, Community Food Share's Let's Bag Hunger food drive collection, starts today and runs through November 25th. You can pick up some extra groceries and drop them off for Community Food Share at practically any grocery store in town, except the weird thing is that I don't see Safeway or Whole Foods listed, and they've always participated in the past. Whole Foods has previously even had prepared bags to grab and donate, so maybe it's just an oversight in Food Share's flyer. In any case, items most needed (in addition to cash, which goes a long way for them) are canned proteins like meats or tuna, soup, canned meals like chili, peanut butter, pasta, and all those other good, high quality non-perishables you can think of. Donate a whole bunch, and you'll enjoy your own fine meal at home all that much more.

Let's Bag Hunger Starts Today!

One of my favorite charitable events of the year, Community Food Share's "Let's Bag Hunger" starts today and runs through November 26th. During this time, you can fill however many bags you want at your usual Boulder grocery store (seems like all participate) with non-perishable groceries to drop off right there for Community Food Share. Cash donations are also of course welcome. You can see all the details, including foods most needed or to donate cash, on Community Food Share's website. If you are thankful for having a bountiful Thanksgiving table this year, consider donating to feed those who don't even have the basics.

More Events At Boulder Lucky's Market

In addition to today's Natural Living Fair (look a few posts below for that one), the Lucky's Market in north Boulder has a couple of other events of interest coming up shortly.  I particularly appreciate their support of Community Food Share.  Here's what they say:

Support Good Causes In Superior

Good heavens, how did it get to be December 1st already?  In any case, I'm so pleased to see that Superior Liquor (in Superior, obviously) is continuing its annual tradition of support for two of my favorite causes: the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and Community Food Share.  Members of their Frequent Customer club, of which there are many in Boulder, have the opportunity to donate their points to their cause of choice.  That alone would be cool enough, but even better is that Superior has lined up additional sponsors who will triple your gift!  Those points are really just like free money anyway, so why not use them for some excellent causes, and triple your gift in the process?

Community Food Share's Bagging Hunger

One of my favorite events, Community Food Share's Let's Bag Hunger food collection campaign, is underway through November 27th.  You can drop off donations at grocery stores all over Boulder, or donate online on their website.  I enjoy doing a special shopping trip for this each year, bringing back skills honed long ago as a starving student, to optimize a big basket of great non-perishable food (proteins like peanut butter especially appreciated) at the best possible price.  Or, lots of our local stores have "grab and give" prepared bags ready for your donation purchase.  C'mon.  It's an expensive time of year, but you'll likely be dropping three figures for your Thanksgiving purchase at Whole Foods, so please do consider whether there's a little room to help out a family that possibly doesn't know if it will have anything to put together for its next meal.

Arapahoe Sprouts Giving Back

This actually started yesterday, but I just haven't had time to write.  The Sprouts store on Arapahoe, that was so hard hit during the flood, is doing a wonderful campaign this weekend, through tomorrow.  They say, "Shop at Sprouts on Arapahoe Avenue Oct. 4-6 and we'll take 10% off every shopper's total purchase. Plus, we'll donate 10% of all net proceeds to Foothills United Way."  That's way good enough, but they also have pre-packaged bags of food needed by Community Food Share, so you can do some good yourself, also at that 10% discount.

Last Day To Bag Hunger

Today is the last day of Community Food Share's Let's Bag Hunger food drive, and it looks like they really need help from all of us.  They've had to revise their goal downward, and still have quite a ways to go to meet even that.  C'mon.  While you're dropping three figures for your own turkey and fixings, pick up some extra provisions to drop in the Community Food Share bins you'll find just about everywhere.  You'll enjoy your turkey even more, having done so.

Community Food Share Drive Coming Up

One of my favorite things about the holiday season arriving is the annual Let's Bag Hunger food drive organized by Community Food Share.  This year it will start this Sunday, November 11th, running through the 21st, when you'll be able to donate food at tons of stores around town.  It's a wonderful program, and they're looking for volunteers right now to help pull it off (call Sue at CFS, 303 652-3663 ext 202).

Community Food Share Needs Your Help

Perhaps a sign of the horrid economy, with the need for food way up, donations to Community Food Share's Let's Bag Hunger drive, which runs through Wednesday, are way down. Cmon guys, let's get going. You think you're a smart shopper? See how much bang for the buck you can find on behalf of Community Food Share. The receipt for my donation at Safeway shows me I saved $13.81, which was 29% of my purchase for them. Who can beat me in smarter shopping for Community Food Share? Come on, I challenge you!

Community Food Share Needs Your Help

Community Food Share's annual Let's Bag Hunger food drive is underway through the 23rd, and this worthy organization really deserves your support, especially in these tough times for so many people. So you think you're a smart shopper? Put it to the test! Show off your smart grocery shopping savvy by seeing how much bang for the buck you can find in assembling a large donation for the drive (look here for a list of most-needed groceries). Although I shop our Boulder natural grocery stores when buying for myself, that's because almost all those goods are fresh, from the produce, meat, and seafood departments. Since Community Food Share needs non-perishable items instead, I find it more cost-effective to break out my commercial grocery store cards for my donation, combing the aisles of Safeway or King Soopers for BOGOs and good discounts on canned goods and the like. The Safeway store at the Meadows Shopping Center has been known to put out some special deals during the drive just to entice more giving. A couple of years ago, they were practically giving away Del Monte canned goods, at something like 30 cents a can. And if you've procrastinated on getting your flu shot this year, you can get it at their pharmacy, then receive a voucher for 10% off your food purchase within the week, thereby stretching your savvy shopping power even further. So please put on your smart shopping hat and see how much nutritious, non-perishable food you can assemble for Community Food Share!

Remember To "Let's Bag Hunger"

As you finish off that grocery shopping for your copious Thanksgiving feast, don't forget to be generous with the non-perishables you pick up to donate to Community Food Share. The Let's Bag Hunger campaign runs through Wednesday. It's a gift to yourself, since the more you give, the better you'll feel.

Community Food Share Drive Begins

Think you're a smart grocery shopper? Put it to the test and see how much bang for the buck you can get in buying for those in need! Today marks the beginning of Community Food Share's annual Let's Bag Hunger food drive, and in these tough times, the need is greater than ever. The drive goes through the 24th, and you can donate your purchase at basically any grocery store in Boulder. I'm happy to report that at least in the past, I've seen the Safeway store in the Meadows shopping center (and maybe elsewhere) discount some highly donateable (a word?) items like brand name canned vegetables to the point that they were practically giving them away, to encourage Food Share donations. Look for the deals, go for the BOGOs, break out the coupons, and see how many bags you can fill for Community Food Share!
