Earth Day At Vitamin Cottage

Earth Day is coming up this Friday, the 22nd. That usually means some good prices on things like earth-friendly cleaning products at many of our stores, but Vitamin Cottage (aka Natural Grocers) can be counted on for something special. In their current sale flyer, for the 22nd they will give you one free limited edition "happy earth" reusable shopping bag with your purchase, plus from 4 to 6 pm, they will do a "legendairy" tasting station, featuring organic and pasture-based cheese, yogurt, butter and organic sausages.

Earth Day Coming Up

Earth Day, near and dear to our hearts, will be this Wednesday, the 22nd. There are typically good specials on things like natural cleaning products, TP and the like at our local grocery stores, but Sprouts did basically a blowout on those last week. I haven't been back yet to see it they might be continuing them, since they're not in their ad, but there's always a possibility. And Vitamin Cottage has a long history of giving a free excellent reusable bag with purchase on Earth Day, but there's no mention of it in the current Hotline like they've done in the past. Whole Foods used to give those great grocery bags on Earth Day, but stopped that practice several years ago. Possibly wise, given how many of us have bags in the car, stored in the house, maybe even at work as they continue to proliferate. Regardless, celebrate Earth Day.

Earth Day's Tomorrow Plus Electronics Recycling

Happy Earth Day tomorrow. To celebrate, Vitamin Cottage traditionally hands out one of their quality, capacious shopping bags for free with your purchase on that day. Their sale flyer has a coupon for one on the back cover, but I've never known them to require it, and besides, chopping up thousands of paper flyers for the sake of a coupon rather flies in the face of Earth Day, especially from a store that stopped asking "paper or plastic" so many years ago.

Also, the Whole Foods store on Pearl Street will offer an electronics recycling event from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, the 23rd. They say you can bring anything with a cord or battery, except no refrigerators, air conditioners, water coolers, light bulbs, oil or gas. Lots of items will be accepted for free, including computer towers, cell phones, and printers, while some items carry a small fee, like laptops at $3 per item. For questions, call 303 424-1719.

Free Bag At Vitamin Cottage

Happy Earth Day!  In celebration, Vitamin Cottage will be giving out a free Natural Grocers reusable shopping bag with your purchase today.  The flyer says the coupon on its back page is required, but my past experience is that it isn't.  Why would they want to sacrifice trees on Earth Day to rip up all those flyers just for that coupon?  Go do your shopping today, and I bet you'll get a bag without having to shred a paper flyer.  And the Natural Grocers bags are among the best:  capacious, strong, and attractive.

An Earth Day Possibility

They say the past doesn't predict the future, but for at least the past couple of years, both Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods, at least at the Pearl Street store, have been giving away reusable bags on Earth Day (with your purchase, of course). They've been the small size at Whole Foods, not big enough for grocery shopping, but a handy size for carting lunch, while Vitamin Cottage has given away their great big beautiful capacious shopping bags. We'll see what might happen on Earth Day tomorrow.

UPDATE: The Vitamin Cottage sale flyer, which should be available in the store at the checkout counters, has a coupon for that free bag, valid only tomorrow, with any purchase while supplies last.

Free Shopping Bags For Earth Day

If you're looking to expand your reusable grocery shopping bag arsenal, Earth Day is usually a good day to do it, with some stores giving them away on the spot to cart home your purchase. True to form (bless their hearts), Vitamin Cottage, aka Natural Grocers, is giving away the really nice big ones that hold a ton of groceries and last nearly forever. Across the parking lot, the Pearl Street Whole Foods is also attempting to give away bags, in their case the sturdy but smaller size that's best for toting a few items or lunch. However, they'd run out of bags at the registers shortly before noon, and were trying to get restocked with the intention of lasting through the rest of the day. Happy Earth Day!
