Kentucky Derby Saturday
So while you're celebrating Cinco de Mayo today, it's also time to start planning for some mint juleps for Saturday for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby. Whether or not you care for horse racing (at least this sport only requires two minutes, unlike other culinary fests like the Super Bowl), you can break out the fancy hats, and of course there are those mint juleps. For a few guides to food and drink for the day, check out the Derby's own official website, and the folks at Southern Living should know how to party this as well.

Kentucky Derby Coming Up
The Running of the Roses, always an excellent excuse for a party, will take place this Saturday, the 2nd. I so miss those fabulous bashes our Louisville (Kentucky, not the town next to us) friends used to throw during the several years they were in Boulder. If looking to plan your own party, or at least celebrate with a proper mint julep, there are guides to help you out. It's such a party-centric event that the official site for the race itself has a section on it, Plan Your Own Derby Party. It not only covers food and the ever-important drink, but also what to wear, which looks like it's straight from Vineyard Vines. For additional ideas, check out Kentucky Derby Cuisine from Epicurious.

Kentucky Derby Galloping Up On Us
The Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, May 3rd already. If you like to celebrate with a party (at least it's an excuse to drink mint juleps), Epicurious has you covered with its Kentucky Derby guide. You can also check out the Plan Your Party section of the Derby's official website; in addition to recipes, it provides advice regarding party supplies and the ever important fashion component. I've never thrown a Derby party myself, but so miss the ones our Louisville ( in Kentucky - not the Louisville five miles from Boulder) friends Kathy and Dennis used to dazzle us with during their several-year stay in Colorado.

Kentucky Derby Saturday
A tad funny to think of such a springtime thing after yesterday's snow, but Saturday will be the Kentucky Derby, a good time for eating, plus don't forget those mint juleps. Saveur magazine has a menu for you, with finger food to get you through the day. Plus, here's the official site for the Derby.

So Many Things To Celebrate
We have a slew of fun celebrations from today through this weekend, starting with Cinco de Mayo today, which I covered a few days ago here. Don't forget also that the Pearl Street Whole Foods will be doing Cinco de Mayo tastings from 4 to 7 today, mentioned here, and Alfalfa's is promising it to be a "food fiesta and always fun times."
Then tomorrow will be graduation at CU, so major congrats to all graduates, as I send hopes for festive celebrations your way.
But then we're on to Saturday, which will be the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, an excuse for a party if ever there was one. Epicurious has a nice guide that will take you through everything you'll want to eat and (more to the point) drink for that festive day.
But wait, then we're on to Sunday, which is Mother's Day. Heavens, mother has seen enough of the inside of a kitchen, so take her out. Or there can be special in-house options like brunch or a special dinner, which I'll cover a bit later.

Kentucky Derby's Tomorrow
If you're looking for ways to toast and lift a fork to the Kentucky Derby tomorrow, Bon Appetit as usual has a pretty nice guide. If making mint juleps, Black Cat Farm has had mint at the Boulder Farmers Market for the past two weeks, so I bet they'll have some great stuff at their stand there tomorrow, as well.
