Lundberg Rice Bags Not On Sale

I was bummed but not surprised to find that bags of basic (and rather pricey) Lundberg rice are not part of the current Gluten Free Favorites sale at Sprouts through tomorrow. That used to be a great way to stock up on a staple, but I guess Sprouts wised up to it. There are plenty of other temptations, though, including Lundberg's rice cakes, for those who are into those. In addition to stocking up on my usual Nut Thins, Crunchmasters, Pamela's cookies and the like, I strayed into temptation territory by picking up a couple of products new to me. I've been seeing freekeh, one of those up and coming ancient grains, getting mentioned rather frequently these days, so I picked up a bag to try. It looks like it cooks quite quickly, unlike some of the other alternate grains. I also succumbed to the convenience of a box of Lundberg traditional Italian risotto, the porcini mushroom variety, when I usually make that kind of thing from scratch. There are lots of Lundberg products included in the sale - just not their one pound bags of basic rice like brown or basmati.

Jewish Holy Days Guides

With Rosh Hashana coming up next week (seems it can be spelled with or without an h at the end, so I'll go with the New York Times' preference) and Yom Kippur shortly thereafter, here are a couple of guides to help with dinner planning: Rosh Hashana Recipes from the New York Times (note the Recipes Navigator in the middle, with articles dating back to 1859!), and Rosh Hashanah/Yom Kippur from Epicurious, which uses the "h." For a local yet internationally known gluten-free writer, visit Elana's Pantry's Paleo Rosh Hashana Menu for gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free and Paleo options.

Gluten-Free Sale Ending Soon

Here's your heads up that you only have today and tomorrow to finish capitalizing on the great sale Sprouts has going on, 25% off more than 2,000 gluten-free products. While that doesn't mean you can waltz out with an apple as part of it just because it doesn't contain wheat, the sale does include some surprising basics, like bags of Lundberg's excellent rice (organic or eco-farmed). While I luckily don't have any gluten issues, I swear many products are tastier by virtue of being gluten-free. Just try a Crunchmaster cracker or one of the gluten-free Pamela's cookies for proof.

One-Day Sale at Whole Foods Tomorrow

For tomorrow only, our local Whole Foods stores will have a duo of special sales. Wild caught coho salmon will be $9.99 a pound, $5 off their usual price, and Pamela's gluten free pancake mix will be $7.99 for 64 ounces, a whopping $7 off.

Weekend Sale At Whole Foods

Our local Whole Foods stores will have a weekend-only sale tomorrow and Sunday, with a quartet of deals. Diestel turkey burger will be $3.99 each, $2 off their usual price. Wild caught, fresh Alaskan true cod will be $8.99 a pound, $4 off per pound from the usual price (that sounds like an excellent choice for the fish chowder I'm planning to make this weekend, as reported in a post below). 365 Everyday Value Pleasant Morning Buzz coffee will be on sale for $4.99 each, $3 off, and selected Udi's gluten-free bagels will be 2 for $6 (I'd think that would be for packages), half off the usual price. I'd go for a pleasant morning buzz and a bagel. Saturday update - WFM email said the cod would be fresh, but that was a goof. No surprise, it's previously frozen, but very good looking nonetheless.

Crunchmaster Crackers Deal

I've become a rabid fan of Crunchmaster's fabulous crackers, which also happen to be gluten-free. Sprouts is doing a gluten free jubilee this week, with a vast array of gluten free products 25% off, including the Crunchmaster crackers. Even better, use this Mambo Sprouts coupon for $1 off a bag of Crunchmasters, and you'll be getting your crackers for a steal. (It does require downloading Mambo Sprouts' coupon printing software, but that's a one-time deal.)
