Swordfish Heads Up
For fans of really fine swordfish, a heads up that Whole Foods' current sale at $16.99 a pound ($5 off their usual price) runs only through tomorrow. I certainly have indulged in my share of nice fresh swordfish recently.

Fish News From Alfalfa's
Alfalfa's new sale flyer through June 16th has wild caught swordfish for a very good $15.99 a pound. I just called their fish department, and it is fresh from the Pacific, fished by a domestic company. Also, yesterday they posted this news on Facebook regarding Copper River salmon:
Starting tomorrow, we have Copper River Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon on sale for the amazing price of $19.99/lb! This is an incredible deal. You'll want to pick up this delicious fish before it all swims away... Wednesday – Sunday while supplied last.

Lucky's Swordfish Is Domestic!
At least at the Longmont store, and I would imagine that would mean the same for the Boulder one, although the two stores do tend to differ on meats, so possibly fish as well. I was thrilled to find that the swordfish on sale at the Longmont store for $6.99 a pound through Wednesday, while previously frozen, is in fact from the USA. That significantly beats Whole Foods' price for frozen Canadian swordfish at $10.99 a pound. Swordfish is going on the grill tonight as we try to beat the heat, and I might just pick up another one on the last day of the sale on Wednesday. Munson's corn on the side with everything this week!

Friday News From WFM Pearl
I was at the Whole Foods on Pearl this afternoon, and found that they have started a Friday fish steaks sale, a one-day deal possibly going all summer. I instantly switched my plan from the albacore I was going to buy to fresh swordfish instead. In produce, I also stumbled on an unadvertised sale of organic roma tomatoes for $1.99 a pound, and that one looks to last the entire length of the regular sale (didn't bother to drag out my glasses to check the fine print).

Excellent Swordfish At Alfalfa's
While I was at the Farmers' Market on Saturday, I strolled over to Alfalfa's, and discovered that they have fresh wild swordfish from the USA on sale for the very good price of $13.99 a pound through October 2nd. That's $2.99 off their regular price, which is already very reasonable for fresh domestic swordfish. This discovery caused an immediate deviation from my prior menu plan; swordfish went on the grill that night, and it was wonderful.
Alfalfa's also has some of the best prices in town on organic produce, as well as a selection from local farms that practically rivalled the nearby Farmers' Market. I used to shop at the original Alfalfa's regularly, back when it and the old Crystal Market were pretty much the only natural food stores in town. With so many additional choices in 21st century Boulder, and so many stores I'd pass to get that far west in town, I rarely get there for my shopping any more (I've even seen in print that they consider their customer base to be west of Folsom, which definitely isn't me). A new option may be looming, however, as there's a possibility that Alfalfa's may open a second store in the old Safeway location in Louisville. That might be greater mileage for me, but probably a quicker drive than fighting the traffic all the way across Boulder.

Swordfish To Die For
Sure, everybody knows that Whole Foods has absolutely sublime fish. Swordfish happens to be about my all time favorite, and for the past week or so, they've opened a limited time window on something really extraordinary: MSC-certified, harpoon-caught fresh swordfish. (I know, the Moby Dick image is a little unnerving.) They've been selling it for $18.99 a pound since it arrived, theoretically already a sale price and not really bad in my estimation for this quality. But for tomorrow through Sunday, Whole Foods will knock another $2 off that price for a special weekender sale, $16.99 a pound. I'm getting mine before you can get yours. Here's what they say:
Harpoon Caught Swordfish
Get it while it's here! Nova Scotia's harpoon fleet was the first swordfish fishery to be certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council. Harpooners bring us fresh swordfish for just a few weeks each summer, so now is the time to get cooking with this legendary fish.

Glorious Swordfish At Whole Foods
Today's one-day sale at our local Whole Foods stores (mentioned yesterday in a post below) is swordfish for $13.99 a pound, and it's a stunner. The sustainably-sourced swordfish is fresh, from the East Coast, delivered today, and absolutely beautiful. I bought a little extra to have grilled swordfish leftovers for lunch, yum. Now I just have to convince the family griller-in-chief to depart from our previous plans and get these beauties on the grill.

A Fresh Domestic Swordfish Sale
Newsflash - the Boulder Sprouts has fresh, wild caught swordfish from the good 'ol USA for $8.99 a pound today. That's a decent price for a sale on previously frozen from who knows where, but absolutely fabulous on fresh and from the US. It's a "manager's special," so there's no telling how long it will be on sale. It changed my dinner plans for tonight in an instant.
