New England Lobster Bliss In Denver

I recently had a chance to experience a rare bit of New England seafood bliss in this area, trying out the relatively new food truck called Lobster Bliss in Denver. Although only established I think in May, I've already seen them referred to as one of the best in the country, I forget if by Eater or by Zagat, and it has been on my radar ever since. They fly in live lobsters then store them in a special tank until their time comes. They offer both the more common cold lobster roll and the harder to find hot Connecticut-style one, and these are true lobster rolls, just big chunks of lobster, not the lobster salad rolls that sometimes give you more celery than anything else. And they sell for just $16 each, a steal considering they can be nearly twice that on the East Coast, even for ones filled with the salad version. It was about the freshest, most wonderful lobster roll I've ever had, including comparing with ones eaten on Block Island or Nantucket.

Check their website for locations and hours, but the short version is lunch at Civic Center Eats on Tuesdays, longer hours Saturdays at the Big Wonderful. We tried them at the Big Wonderful, which also amazed this New Englander with the added attraction of a bar area carrying craft beers from Cisco Brewery on Nantucket. This is a rare find indeed in the West!

StrEATchefs at Boulder Creek Fair

If you get the munchies while wandering through the Boulder Creek Fair happening across this long Labor Day weekend, my favorite food truck, StrEATchefs has tweeted that they will be on the scene both today and tomorrow to keep you satisfied until you get back home to your own kitchen and grill. ("All day and into the evening," per their tweet.) The brainchild of Hosea Rosenberg, obviously our local celebrity as Top Chef Season 5 winner, the StrEATchefs Airstream trailer serves up tasty and decadent meals, with some lighter options like salads as well. Definitely not in the latter category, the grilled cheese sandwich with pork belly and apple jam that I got from the truck a few weeks ago lives in my memory as one of the greatest sandwiches of all time.

Now I need to get back to planning the rest of our dinners for the week, but our plans are in place through the holiday tomorrow. Will still stick with grilling the sausages tomorrow as planned, despite the fact that the temperature will barely make it to the 70s, yikes. I'm not ready to start cooking with winter squash. Let's keep that local corn, zucchini, and eggplant coming.
