"Italian America" in Saveur
Saveur magazine always has thought-provoking, illuminating articles, and the feature one in the current December issue is no exception. "Italian America" engagingly relates the evolution of Italian food on this side of the ocean. No wonder it's well done, as the main component of it is written by John Mariani, author of How Italian Food Conquered the World. Unfortunately, I don't see it online in this issue at Saveur, probably because it is the feature and they can't give just everything away. A sidebar headed "Classic Combo" extols the virtues of sausage and peppers, giving me background on why that's in my menu plan for Thursday, having grown up in a rather Italian area in southern New England.
