This Week's Hot Grocery Deals (IMHO)

We have new sales starting today at our Boulder Sprouts and Whole Foods stores, while the current one continues at Vitamin Cottage through September 26th (look a few posts below for that one). And I so wish I had time to include Lucky's Market, which I love, but the north Boulder store just isn't in my travel pattern, while the Longmont one, where I do tend to find myself, has quite different sales from the Boulder store. In any case, here's what's looking good to me now.

At Sprouts through September 23rd, bone-in country pork ribs are just $1.99 a pound, pork spare ribs are $2.99 a pound, and baby back ribs are $3.99 a pound (might need to do some cooler weather grilling this weekend). Whole Rosie organic chickens are $2.99 a pound, and 85% lean ground beef is $3.79 a pound, although that's for the value pack, so you have to like your burger in quantity. In fish, previously frozen 26/30 count wild raw shrimp are $6.99 a pound, and it's notable that those are wild, not farmed. I'd avoid the fresh farmed six ounce portions of Atlantic salmon they're selling for $4.99 each; do the math and you'll find that works out to a pretty darned high price for farmed salmon.

In organic produce at Sprouts, Diva apples are just 98 cents a pound, green curly or Lacinato kale are both 98 cents a bunch, one pound bags of baby orange carrots or 12 ounce ones of rainbow carrots are $1.48 each (I'll have to check out those rainbows), and red, green or black seedless grapes are all $2.48 a pound. Elsewhere in the store, it's time for another sale on Sprouts' own brand, with specials on a whole lot of their own products, and a particular emphasis on pumpkin ones at 25% off.

At Whole Foods through September 29th, sigh, it's already time for winter squash to be on sale at 98 cents a pound (that must be conventional since it doesn't specify), while organic gala apples are $1.68 a pound and organic Bartlett pears are $1.48 a pound (sounds a lot like fall, doesn't it). Delicious Parrano gouda is $12.99 a pound, In fish, fresh, responsibly farmed Arctic char is $14.99 a pound. MyChelle fans will enjoy MyChelle facial care at 20% off. I still swear Whole Foods new format for its online sale flyer lists considerably fewer specials than the old format, so there are fewer deals that jump out at me.
