We don't usually do much along the burger lines, but with today's one-day sale at Whole Foods on ground beef, plus Sprouts' weeklong sale (look for posts below for details), it's sort of on the brain. One fave around here is baked potatoes with spiced beef chili from Bon Appetit, so that will be on deck tonight. Plus Sprouts has five pound bags of organic russet potatoes for the ridiculously low price of $1.99 a bag.
I'm not overwhelmed by the meat offerings on sale this week, so we'll turn to fish tomorrow. Sprouts has farmed salmon for $6.99 a pound this week, which I'll either cook naked with a squeeze of lemon, or dress up a bit as pan-roasted salmon with ginger and curry from Gourmet magazine. Ginger and curry somehow sound like a good idea at this time of year, with all the flu that's going around.
Needing something big to serve also as a midweek reheat, we'll head to a nearly vegetarian option for Sunday, which will be potato and root vegetable chowder with bacon from Bon Appetit. Nice and seasonal, and warming, with our frigid weekend temperatures. And it will again tap that five pound bag of russets so cheap at Sprouts.
Stay warm out there!
